Some ingredients like the Pizza sauce is so simple to make but most of us would end up buying the jars from shops which I suppose is much simpler to do. I was doing that as long I was making Pizza at home. Then I met a friend couple of years back who invited us over for Pizza and Burger party for kids. She made her own sauce which was delicious and I was super impressed. That gave me the courage to try out my own sauce. But surprisingly it took me some time to find a recipe. Making your own sauce is not only very healthy and nutritious but also very easy on the pocket. This is primarily a pizza sauce recipe along with a do as you please pizza topping.

Utensil/ Appliance

A small sauce pan and oven preheated @200°C.

Ingredients

For the sauce: 400g tomatoes, peeled and chopped and deseeded + 2 garlics crushed + 2 tsp dried basil + 1 tbsp olive oil + 2 tbsp tomato pureé + salt & pepper to taste

Pizza dough: 500g (I will post the recipe another day) or ready made pizza base

Todays toppings:

Mozzarella cheese: 250g grated

Parmesan cheese: 2 tbsp freshly grated

Chicken: 1/2 cup cooked barbecued chicken

Mushroom: 1/2 cup sliced

Bell pepper: 1/2 cup finely chopped red & yellow

Leftover böreks stuffing from yesterday: 1/2 cup (see yesterdays recipe)

Method

In the sauce pan put all the ingredients for the sauce except for tomato puree and cook in simmer for 20 minutes or until the sauce has thickened. Stirring occasionally and smashing the tomatoes with the ladle. Add the tomato puree, mix and leave it to cool slightly. Sauce is done.

 

Divide the dough in half and spread out on a cookie sheet or any baking tray. Blind bake in the oven for 5 minutes then take out. Spread half of the sauce evenly and then sprinkle the cheese over. I made a half-an-half pizza, half with boreks stuffing. Then add the rest of the toppings as you please. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes. I keep olive oil flavored with garlic at home for my pizza. Sprinkle some on top and you have the most delicious pizza ever! Simply heavenly.
