This is the day to go very very simple. Dal-sabzi aur roti. There are times, which is quite often that you don't want to think of what to cook anymore. Can anyone who doesn't cook, stop and think before asking the person who cooks everyday - "so what's for food?". There is an underlying, unspoken pressure to perform, to present something extraordinary, something that will lit up everyone's eyes and a voice that only says - "wow yummy!" Well I try not to fall for it. So I have this rule, keep everyone guessing and "eat whatever is on the table with a happy face". I am cruel I know. So there are times when you don't want to think and this is my dish for no 'thought-cooking-meal'.

Utensil/ Appliance

A frying pan, a sauce pan and a metal strainer with a lid

Ingredients

Beans: 1 1/2 cup chopped to 1/2 inch

Potato: 1 cups chopped into 1 inch cubes

Onion: 1 small sliced

Cumin seeds: 1/2 tsp

Turmeric: 1/4 tsp

Tomato: 1 for garnish

Salt to taste

Mustard oil: 1 tbsp

Method

Heat the oil in the frying pan, add the cumin seeds and let it turn brown. Then add the onions and fry till translucent. Then add the potatoes, salt & turmeric. Stir fry for a minute on high heat then turn down the heat, cover and cook for 10 minutes or till the potatoes are cooked. Stirring occassionally. While the potatoes are being cooked, fill quarter of the sauce pan with water and bring to boil. Put the metal strainer on it and place the chopped beans and cover. Steam cook the beans for 5 minutes and then add them to the potatoes and stir fry for further 3 minutes. Serve hot garnished with some roasted, peeled and chopped tomatoes. Goes best with roti.
